Puerto del Carmen on the Canary Island of Lanzarote is a lively resort with three main resort areas; Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca. The run-up to Christmas has started in the Lanzarote resort of Puerto del Carmen has started with Christmas decoration workshops, decorating of the Plaza de la Iglesia de San Antonio, the inauguration of the Christmas Nativity in the Plaza Candelaria Borges and a concert by the choir in the Ermita de San Antonio.
Today sees the start of the Christmas market in the Plaza de las Naciones which continues every day until Sunday 9th December. The market is also open on the 22nd December.
From Monday, right through to the 7th January, Ruta de Belenes (route of the nativity) decorated windows can be seen in the commercial zone of Tias.
On the 14th, 22nd and 28th of December is the children’s Christmas cinema in the Plaza de la Ermita de San Antonio which also plays host to Christmas painting and children’s karaoke on the following Sunday.
Music and dancing are the order of the day on the 20th December when students from the Escuela Municipal de Danza Beatrice Senet perform a Christmas Dance Festival in the Terrero Ulpiano Rodriguez Perez. This is followed by live music and a fashion show on the following day in the Plaza Ermita de San Antonio.
Traditional Canarian groups from Tias, Macher and Coral Marina de Puerto del Carmen performing in the municipal theatre of Tias on the 22nd December.
The eagerly awaited Santa Parade takes place on Sunday 23rd December, making its way from the Cafe del Carmen, along the Avenida de las Playas to Lineker’s Bar.
Children’s games are the order of the day in the Plaza de la Ermita de San Antonio on Saturday the 29th December which is also the day of a charity evening organised by the Association Cultural Musical Guagaro, taking place in the municipal theatre of Tias to raise toys.
Not to be missed are the New Year celebrations which start on the 31st December with music in the old harbour of Plaza del Varadero in Puerto del Carmen, followed by a firework display on Playa Grande in the early hours of the morning.
Relax at the concert in the Plaza del Varadero in Puerto del Carmen on Friday 4th January before watching the Kings Procession (Cabalgata de Reyes) the following day which takes place in Tias, starting at the Restaurante Las Vinas before proceeding along Avenida Central and Calle Libertad to the Pabellon Municipal. On the same day the Kings Procession in Puerto del Carmen leaves the Cafe del Carmen and makes its way to the Plaza del Varadero in the old harbour. Also on Saturday 5th January there are the children’s characters who will be parading on the streets of the commercial area of Tias.
